Galiano Island Literary Festival
If you’re looking for a way to escape the traffic snarls and security checkpoints of the Olympics, the First Annual Galiano Island Literary Festival is just the ticket. Relax your body while you stimulate your mind on our beautiful gulf island. Starting with an intimate welcoming reception on the evening of Friday, February 19th, this weekend will give you the opportunity to meet a variety of writers from the Gulf Islands and across British Columbia in an intimate and casual setting, while at the same time having a few quiet hours to walk along our beautiful beaches or through our serene forests. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be readings and talks by over 20 writers of fiction, nonfiction and poetry including George Bowering, Dede Crane, Bill Deverell, Ann Eriksson, Bill Gaston, Gary Geddes, Geoff Inveriarty, Linda L. Richards, Timothy Taylor, Audrey Thomas, Rhea Tregebov and Alan Twigg. There will also be workshops and panels discussing such subjects as developing a writing style, getting published, and the future of the printed page in the e-book age. Best of all, all of this will occur in a relaxed and cozy atmosphere where you will be able to talk one to one with writers and fellow book lovers, or just sit back and enjoy the conversation.
The Festival will be held at the Galiano Inn, just a few short steps from the ferry dock, so you can leave your cars and cares at home. Registration for the entire weekend is $150.00 per person, which includes the opening reception, admission to all sessions, and lunch on Saturday and Sunday. You can also come for either Saturday or Sunday, at $85.00 per day, including lunch, or for a half day, not including lunch, for $40.00. Attendees are also welcome to join the authors on Saturday evening for dinner and conversation. The dinner is $25.00 per person (excluding beverages). Lodging is available at the Galiano Inn through their website at www.galianoinn.com or at 1-877-530-3939, or go to the Galiano Chamber of Commerce website at www.galianoisland.com to arrange other accommodations including cabins, bed and breakfasts and lodges. To register for the weekend, drop into the bookstore or call us at 1-877-795-BOOK (2665). We will soon post a complete list of authors attending, with their biographies so keep checking here.
