Our website, which you are visiting right now, is very new and still under construction. Right now, we’re in the process of putting the finishing touches on our shopping cart, which you have probably seen on many other websites as well. In the meantime, we are happy to take your order via our toll-free telephone number at 1-877-795-Book (2665).
We have certainly had the experience ourselves of having a question we just can’t find the answer to on the web. That’s why we’re available via telephone at 1-877-795-Book (2665) to answer any questions you have. If we don’t have the answer right away, we’ll find it out and call or e-mail you back as soon as possible.
Of course. We would love to see you in the store, but short of that we’re happy to talk with you by telephone and answer the same questions you might ask us if you were in the store.
As you will see, our website has a search function that allows you to look for books you have a particular interest in. However, it’s often difficult to figure out just how to best search for a book. If you use one word, too many titles come up and if you use another you don’t get anything. At such times, we would recommend you give us a call. We’re always happy to help you find the exact title that will meet your needs. Our goal isn’t to sell as many books as we can, it’s to get the right book in the hands of the individual customer.
Our name reflects the fact that we are a real “bricks and mortar” (well, actually wood and nails) store that is located on Galiano Island, one of the beautiful southern Gulf Islands of British Columbia. Although located only a 50 minute ferry trip from Vancouver and Victoria, Galiano Island retains it small community atmosphere together with great natural beauty. We’re proud to be a member of this community and hope that each and every one of our web customers will some day have the opportunity to visit our wonderful island.
We take Mastercard, Visa and American Express. We will take your credit card information when you place your order. If there is some problem with getting authorization, we’ll contact you right away via e-mail or telephone to let you know.
All items we sell are priced at or below the recommended sale price of the publisher or manufacturer. All prices are re-checked when your order is processed. If we find that the price of the item has dropped, we will charge you the new lower price. If the price has increased we will usually sell it at the lower price we had listed; however, if the difference is a large one, we will notify you to get your authorization before charging the correct higher price.
Featured titles are books recommended by our staff or readers that we then review and determine are worth calling to our readers’ attention. We do not, under any circumstances, list books as featured titles in response to incentives offered by publishers or others. Simply put, the featured titles are books we liked and think are worth reading, not so-called “supported placements” purchased by publishers or others.
Our goal is customer satisfaction. There are two reasons a customer returns an item. First, it is damaged, defective, or otherwise not as described. In such cases we are happy to fully reimburse you for your purchase, including shipping and return costs. Second, customers sometimes buy a book only to discover that they already own it, thought it was a different book or simply find it wasn’t what they were looking for. In such cases we are willing to accept the item back and refund you the price of the purchase. Please see our shipping policy for more details on our return policy.
You might think we’re crazy for saying this, but the short answer is you shouldn’t. We fully support local independent bookstores and other independent local businesses. By buying locally, you are supporting your local economy, creating jobs in your community and helping to maintain the uniqueness of your hometown. Galiano Island Books itself is a small community bookstore and fully supports the shop local ethic. However, if you don’t have access to a local independent bookstore or if your local store can’t get you the book you need, we hope you will consider us as your local bookstore on the web.
There are a number of ways we’re creating to keep our readers informed about what’s happening on Galiano Island and within the book world. In addition to our website, we have a newsletter that will be available on line, and we also do regular e-mails to those who are interested in happenings at the bookstore and so on. We are also in the process of setting up Facebook and other social networking links, and will also be setting up blogs where books on various topics, such as history, popular science or fiction will be discussed and readers’ reactions will be solicited (think of it as your own book club on the net). Keep checking the website for new developments.
Yes, we are happy to provide gift certificates for any amount ($20.00 minimum). These certificates can be redeemed either over the web or in person at the store.
We are primarily a bookstore, so that’s our main focus. However, we do carry many items aside from books. These are of two types. First, we carry craft items and artwork that are created on Galiano Island or elsewhere in British Columbia as a way of promoting the local and regional arts and crafts community, and as a way of exposing those from outside of our province to the wonderful range of work produced here. Second, we carry a limited number of items which we feel are unique and likely to be of interest to book lovers.
